Eqi Gold

Eqi is Disko Gold’s flagship gold project: a high-grade, multi-style hydrothermal gold system in the Arveprinsen–Eqi supracrustal belt. It is the most comprehensively documented gold target in the portfolio. It remains exploration-stage. No Mineral Resource has been defined.

Overview

Eqi is Disko Gold’s flagship exploration-stage gold project, located within an approximately 50 km² exclusive exploration licence in West Greenland’s Ilulissat district. It lies in the Archean Arveprinsen–Eqi supracrustal belt, a setting geologically comparable to major Archean gold provinces such as the Abitibi and Yilgarn.

Gold occurs in quartz-carbonate veins, copper–gold hydrothermal breccias and sulphide-rich horizons. Reported results include up to 60 g/t Au from a grab sample, up to 22 g/t Au from surface sampling, and a historic drill intersection of 12 g/t Au over 3.8 metres with 1.3% Cu.

Historic work includes mapping, sampling, geophysics and limited drilling, making Eqi the portfolio’s most comprehensively documented gold target. Its proximity to Ilulissat may support future logistics and community engagement. No Mineral Resource or Mineral Reserve has been defined, and further exploration is required.

Status

Exploration-stage. Historic mapping, sampling and limited drilling. Gold grade continuity and mineable widths remain unproven. Historic datasets predate modern QA/QC protocols.

Geological setting

Eqi is hosted in the ~2.8 Ga Arveprinsen–Eqi supracrustal belt: metamorphosed mafic and felsic volcanic rocks, sedimentary horizons and a major Archean sill complex of komatiitic to tholeiitic affinity.

Key features include komatiitic and tholeiitic volcanic rocks, felsic volcanic horizons, carbonate alteration, sulphide-rich breccias, and multiple deformation phases that can create structural traps. Much of the Eqi area is greenschist facies, with amphibolite-facies rocks in the west.

Mineralisation style

Gold occurs in three main styles:

  1. Quartz-carbonate veins — pyrite-bearing veins with strong structural control; source of the reported 60 g/t Au grab sample.
  2. Hydrothermal breccia zones — copper–gold breccias with chalcopyrite; reported gold up to 22 g/t Au and the 12 g/t Au over 3.8 m drill intersection.
  3. Sulphide horizons — semi-massive pyrite zones with gold associated with carbonate-sericite alteration.

Exploration history

  • 1970s–1980s — GGU regional mapping of supracrustal belts, alteration and sulphides.
  • 1988 — Knudsen and others: reconnaissance, sulphide types, grab samples including high-grade gold in breccia.
  • 1988–1991 — Faxe Kalk / Platinova mapping and the Eqi West drill programme.
  • 1990s — GEUS sampling, including quartz-vein gold up to 60 g/t Au.
  • 1999 — Marshall & Schønwandt characterisation of the Archean sill complex.
  • 2010 — Avannaa Resources rock sampling, structural mapping and geophysics at Eqi East.

Exploration potential

Eqi has a 50–200 m wide alteration footprint, more than one high-grade zone, and untested strike extensions. Depth continuity is locally indicated by historic drilling, not established as a resource. Further work would need systematic mapping, sampling and, if justified, modern drilling with QA/QC.
